Wholesome Seduction: EP Edition

Wholesome Seduction brings you the latest food and nutrition musings from Clare Garcia. Clare’s blog focuses on observations about current trends, recipes and opinions in the world of eating.

What is Wholesome Seduction?

clare Wholesome Seduction is a food blog that believes food is fuel and it should not only taste good, but do us good. Taking inspiration from abroad and with a little thought and planning, flavour needn’t be compromised.

Clare Garcia is Creative Director for Gather & Gather.

In this issue

It’s been a while since my last EP shot so welcome back. A couple of months ago, I realized I’d dropped the ball (sorry) on blogging recipes so have attempted to re-dress the balance. More specifically I’ve included healthier eating on the go and dishes that celebrate the summer and all its nutritious goodness.

On another note, it seems I promised to share my Brazilian escapades with you. Unfortunately, since returning from Carnaval Central a virus has made even my yoga addiction a (very) distant memory. Cue: more get fit recipes in the pipeline.

In the spirit of the World Cup and by way of a compromise, however, I bring you the nectar of Brazil, caipirinhas. Can’t think why I’ve been so ill…

Happy wholesomely seductive eating!

Shaking caipirinhas

Even after two weeks of relentless (really) carnival caipirinhas in Brazil a few months back, this remains my favourite cocktail. Admittedly, I wimped out of cachaça, switching for vodka by day five. Thanks to Brazilian friend Beta, we have a visual guide to help us cheer on Brazil in the World Cup, or to see us through churrascos (BBQ’s) in the sunshine. Needless to say, measures were on the large and non specific side so feel free to adjust to your taste. Bikini optional.

Pitt Cue Co. chipotle ketchup

I’m not a really a ketchup eater, so the fact I went to the lengths of making this recipe, and am now blogging it, I think testifies for the flavour. With smokey chilli and tangy apple and tamarind, this straddles between a sophisticated Tommy K and HP. There are various incarnations on the web, chipotle peppers generally causing some sourcing issues; this is mine.

Cranberry & lemon amoretti

True Wholesome Seduction: a super tasty snack that’s healthy, low carb and protein packed. These mini morsels are even vegan, dairy, gluten and refined sugar free and still somehow taste of un-compromised indulgence. Ideal for pre / post exercise; a (very buff) friend now keeps them at the ready for his relentless triathlon training hunger. Groan! If iron man fitness doesn’t float your boat, they’re perfect with coffee.

Tortilla (Tor-tee-ya): Spanish omelette

I hounded Dad Garcia to make me this throughout my childhood, that and churros. And steak, egg and chips… Hmm… I’m not painting the healthiest picture here… Don’t worry, mum hid 10kg of mushy spinach in pancakes to make up for it. A bad day. Anyway, I maintain that Papi’s tortilla is the best, and after years of being his tattie sous chef, here it is. A perfect summer fridge staple for a snack or any meal of the day (seriously). For picnics in the park (maybe not this week), or to eat On the Go. ¡Aproveche!
