Aligning vision to the future
Recently EP attended an event created by The Planet Mark which brought together businesses of all shapes and sizes to discuss what the UN Global Goals are and how businesses can embrace sustainability and deliver meaningful contributions to society and the environment.
It is argued that the UN Sustainable Development Goals, otherwise known as the Global Goals, offer transformation for people and the planet and also represent an estimated $12 trillion economic opportunity by 2030.
It is an interesting time as more businesses look internally and externally on how they drive purpose for their people and the community around them. It appears more are committing to contributing to society and trying to make an impact, no matter what size.
The Planet Mark event included input from many: businesses, an MP who Chairs the ‘Environment Committee’, PwC Global Sustainability COO and ‘Project Everyone’ – a campaign set up by the filmmaker Richard Curtis to popularise the Goals. Their aim is to put the power of great communication behind the Global Goals and the issues related to it. They created the following dynamic video:
EP recently created the ‘Hospitality Social Good Awards’ to reocgnise, reward and make others think and act differently. The sector has many fine examples of powerful and meaingful impact but with no central reference point. Our aim is to showcase and profile the great work and ideally this will encourage others to follow suit. It can, as we all known, have many benefits. Find out more here.
If you, your businesses or if you know of anyone who is currently having a positive impact please let us know – we are interested in all stories.
Why is this all important now?
During The Planet Mark event PwC argued that there is evidence to suggest businesses who align to the Global Goals achieved three and half percent improved business performance. Plus lower costs of equity and debt. It is an interesting point and whilst PwC are promoting their ability to support businesses aligning to the goals – it does show that Social Good can have real business power too.
EP is also delighted to be running a number of activities this year under #LetsMakeADifference – all about finding new perspectives, new friendships and really contributing to wider causes.
On 18th June for one week EP is running the 'Way of the Gods' Walk in Italy. To raise funds for charity but also as an activity that is outside of work and actually challenges people. It will stretch you personally but when involved in activities outside of the daily discipline, it should impact overall performance.
The walk will include great hotels and restaurants en route and is around 120km in total.
