The Entrepreneurs’ Pitch Feb 2016

February 2016’s EP Pitch was kindly hosted by Natwest, and five entrepreneurs presented to many senior figures in the industry. Panel members were also on hand after the event to offer advice, so the entrepreneurs can benefit from their extensive experience over drinks and canapés.

The Pitches

Adam Shaw started proceedings, giving potential investors an insight into Crossbill Gin – the first and only gin to be made from 100% juniper. The distillery is a shed in Aviemore, which won a Channel 4 ‘Amazing Spaces’ award, and the product taps into both the current popularity of gin, and the importance of provenance. Crossbill aims to expand through increasing production and sales throughout the UK and globally.

Next up was Max Tobias of The Dusty Knuckle bakery in Hackney, who explained the social enterprise aspect of his business. Max’s background involves conflict mediation and working with young people involved with violence and criminality, and along with creating fresh handmade sourdough daily, The Dusty Knuckle provides work experience and a structured environment for them. Max is looking to build the business with a permanent site.

Julian Davies Smith presented the My Slice pizza concept, which uses dough specially made in Rome, frozen and brought over to Brighton, where Julian uses it to create authentic, crispy-based Roman pizza to sell by the slice. He cooked pizzas on-site and distributed samples of the product which got great feedback from the panel and audience.  My Slice is looking to grow through supplying outside operations.

To follow was Daniel Phibbs who has founded Exotic Tipples, an exclusive membership service that provides a different drinking experience each month based on a different country around the world. Each mini bottle is rare and hand-selected, offering a novel experience, or unusual gift. Daniel has had great success selling the packages on a stand in Brighton, and is looking to expand.

Finishing the pitches was David Alstadter of My Circle, innovative cloud-based POS software that engages customers via social channels, enables mobile ordering and payment and provides incredibly detailed data and analytics to base marketing strategies around. My Circle has had great success during trials at Rotherham FC, and is looking to expand throughout the UK.

The presentations finished with networking over drinks and canapes, where the panel got any further questions answered, and the presenters got a chance to relax.
