Ten things which raised an eyebrow this week – 07/02/14

EP brings you a brief round-up of some of the news items which were perhaps as surprising as they were enlightening

  • Police responding to reports of screaming at a house in Maine didn’t find any victims of domestic abuse but rather a particularly “amorous” male pig
  • “King of Ink Land King Body Art The Extreme Ink-ite”, formerly known as Matthew Whelan, has been denied a passport as his moniker was regarded as “a string of words” rather than a name
  • Supposedly representing “the changing seasons”, a 15 year old girl spent 4 hours “twirling” on stage before a live audience (even more remarkably, millions of people tuned in to watch!)
  • For the hardcore fans of dough and cheese, ‘Demeter’ perfumery has created a cologne based on the the scent of pizza
  • A forgotten collection of 1,000 vintage cars worth an estimated £100,000 has been found rusting in a forest in Sweden
  • Astronomers around the world are scratching their heads after discovering Polaris a.k.a. “The North Star” is getting brighter
  • Federal attorneys in the US have found themselves in the unique situation of being ‘stuck’ with $25 million in bitcoins and no way to liquidate the fortune
  • Obesity figures in the UK are becoming increasingly hard to digest as it’s revealed that in Copeland, England’s fattest town, 75.9% of residents are officially obese
  • A Canadian rock band has sent an invoice in excess of £400,000 to the US Military after discovering their music was being used – without permission – to torture suspected terrorists in Guantanamo Bay
  • And finally, if you think you’re having a bad day, spare a thought for the woman who picked up the wrong tube and glued her eyelids together when she inadvertently reached for super-glue instead of eye drops!
