Les Roches students break boundaries with the latest Future of Hospitality Summit (FHS)

 

Students of Les Roches Global Hospitality Education organised the second Future of Hospitality Summit on 28-30 October. The conference with industry professionals shared insights into the latest innovations and future tech-based developments to the leaders of tomorrow.
It was held at Les Roches’ campus near the beautiful mountain resort of Crans-Montana and was dedicated to the theme “Questioning Answers: Excavating the Future”. The entire event was led by the students and the 250 participants challenged the current state of the industry from different perspectives.

The FHS included presentations by exciting new innovators who shared their outlook and vision for the global travel industry. Speeches were complemented by workshops and hospitality start-ups demonstrated their latest developments to guests and students.

The Pitch

For the first time this year, FHS held a pitching competition with students proposing innovative approaches around the topic “Making Hospitable Cities Against a Backdrop of Security Fears”.

Chris Sheppardson and Lauran Bush of EP and Jan Huizing, Researcher at Hotelschool The Hague choose the winner who will now pitch their idea at the ‘Hospitable Cities’ Conference in London April 2017. 

The winner of the pitch was ‘Hosplet’ whose idea was to design a wearable piece of technology which helps people when they are ill or injured. The medical bracelet includes virtual reality support which connects to loved ones and a doctor in the event of an accident or illness whilst travelling.

The wearable would also be linked to a smart phone and a automatic push notification would inform authorities for next of kin information. The worthy winners are now visiting London in April 2017 to present their idea at ‘How to make the world’s most hospitable city’.

The FHS is just one way Les Roches is striving to offer value to its students. The institution’s curriculum combines applied hospitality classes with theoretical courses in management theory, encouraging innovation and business acumen among students, many of whom choose to specialise in entrepreneurship and go onto realise their own business ideas.
