Created by Paolo Pomposi of Florences Gelateria Badiani, La Dolce Vita was proclaimed the best new flavour at the 2015 Gelato European Championship held at Florences Piazzale Michelangelo.
The Championships were held over four days at the beginning of October and featured some of the best gelato flavours. The winning flavour was created for a recent European tour – the Gelato Festival which stopped in 21 Italian and European cities, including London and the best gelato was then chosen to compete in the finals.
Florence is the birthplace of gelato and Bernardo Buontalenti is credited as one of the first inventors. One of Badianis significant flavours is named after Buontalenti. The delicious ice cream made in traditional Italian style is composed of 60 per cent cream, the remaining ingredients are milk with a slight amount of sugar and egg yolks.
The winning flavour La Dolce Vita has a Buontalenti base, with chocolate sauce and silvers of hazelnut. Creator Paolo Pomposi competed for England as Badiani are going to open an ice cream shop in the UK very soon.
